“The Holy Gift of Play” 🕊
Scripture of the Day!
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” - Proverbs 17:22
Devotional Thought..
When was the last time you let yourself play?
Not perform.
Not produce.
Not perfect.
Just play.
In Scripture, God often calls His people to rest, rejoice, and remember the goodness He planted in creation. Jesus welcomed children.. not because they were productive, but because their hearts were open, joyful, curious, and unburdened by self judgment.
Childlike joy is not childish.
It is spiritually restorative.
Hobbies, creativity, and even small moments of escapism can give your soul room to breathe. Painting, reading, gaming, gardening, crafting, playing music, watching your favorite shows! No, these aren’t distractions from life. They are often the places where God whispers, “Be still. Be delighted. Remember you are more than what you produce.”
God is not honoured only in your work..
He is also honored when you enjoy the gifts He gave you.
Just as Sabbath refreshes the body, play refreshes the heart.
Just as prayer restores the spirit, hobbies can restore your joy.
Allow yourself moments today to be curious, silly, creative, or immersed in something that brings life back into your soul. Your joy, too, is worship.
🌱 Therapy Tips for Healthy Play & Escapism!
1. Schedule Joy on Purpose.
Add 15- 30 minutes of a hobby into your daily routine. Consistency matters more than duration.
2. Practice “Guilt-Free Enjoyment”.
When you catch yourself feeling guilty for having fun, gently remind yourself:
“Rest is productive. Joy is healing.”
3. Use Play to Regulate Stress.
Engage in a hobby when you feel overloaded. Creative or playful activities help ground your nervous system.
4. Try a ‘5 Minute Restart’.
If life feels heavy, pause and do something whimsical or fun for just five minutes! Draw, stretch, doodle, dance, step outside, listen to a comfort song.
🌟 Life Quote of the Day!
“Joy is not a luxury; it is a spiritual discipline.”
Closing Prayer..
Father, thank You for creating joy, imagination, and delight.
Teach me to rest in Your presence through the simple pleasures You’ve woven into my life.
Help me reclaim childlike wonder, not as escape from reality, but as a reminder that You are good and You designed me to enjoy You.. and the life You’ve given me.
Amen.
