“Light for the Next Step” 🕊
Bible..
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” - Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
There are days when the way ahead feels uncertain. When we can’t see very far, and the next step feels like all we can manage. God doesn’t always reveal the full road before us, but He promises light for each step we take. Sometimes that light feels small, like a candle rather than a sunrise, but it is enough.
From a therapeutic perspective, this aligns closely with principles found in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). When life feels overwhelming, our minds often leap ahead, imagining every possible problem at once. This creates anxiety and paralysis. Grounding ourselves in the present. What we can do, think, and feel now.. helps reduce that overwhelm.
You might try this: pause and take a slow breath. Notice your feet on the ground. Ask yourself, “What is the next right thing I can do today?” Not every problem must be solved at once; not every decision needs to be clear before you begin. In CBT, this is called breaking things into manageable steps. Spiritually, it mirrors walking by faith rather than by sight.
In ACT, we also learn to act in line with our values rather than our fears. Ask: “What matters most to me in this moment?” That could be kindness, integrity, patience, or courage. When you take one small action consistent with your values, even amid uncertainty, you move towards peace. This is where therapy and faith hold hands.. both teach that peace is found not in perfect clarity, but in trustful, value driven action.
You don’t need to know how the story ends to walk faithfully through today. God’s guidance is often quiet and practical, the gentle nudge to send a message, take a walk, rest, forgive, or begin again. His word is the steady lamp; your next step is the act of trust.
Reflection Prompts:
1. What uncertainty or worry is weighing most heavily on you today?
2. What small, value driven step could you take that aligns with faith or kindness?
3. Where have you seen God provide “light for the next step” in the past?
Closing Prayer..
Lord, thank You for being my steady light when the path feels dim. Teach me to take each step in trust, guided by Your word and grounded in Your peace. When I am anxious about the future, remind me that You are already there. Help me to walk faithfully today, one small step at a time. Amen.

Amen thank you 🙏❤️
