Focus on the Good ❤️
Verse of the Day:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.”
— Philippians 4:8
We all know how easy it is to get stuck thinking about what’s wrong. The mistake we made. The thing someone said. The thing we wish had gone differently. It’s like our minds have this magnet for negativity, and before we know it, that one bad moment starts coloring the whole day.
But God didn’t design our minds to stay trapped there. He reminds us to turn our thoughts toward what is good and true. That doesn’t mean pretending bad things don’t exist or ignoring pain, it just means we don’t let negativity set up camp in our hearts.
When you shift your focus to what’s good, your mood begins to change. You start to notice the little blessings that were there all along: the friend who checked in, the way the sun hit the trees this morning, the simple gift of being alive. Gratitude is powerful, it retrains the brain.
Therapy Tip!
Try this exercise today:
When you notice a negative thought, pause and name it. Say to yourself, “That’s a negative thought.” Then ask, “Is it completely true?” Often it’s not. Replace it with something more balanced or kind.
You can also try the “Three Good Things” technique each night. Before you go to bed, list three things that went well today, no matter how small. It could be “I made it through the workday,” “My coffee tasted great,” or “I texted a friend.” This simple habit helps your brain look for light even on hard days.
Reflection..
Focusing on the good doesn’t mean ignoring reality, it means choosing peace over worry and gratitude over complaint. It’s a daily practice, not perfection. Even when life feels heavy, God is still doing good things all around you and in you.
Prayer..
God, thank You for the good things in my life, both big and small. Help me not to get stuck in negativity or fear. Teach me to notice the blessings You place in front of me each day. When my thoughts start drifting toward what’s wrong, remind me to pause and look for what’s right. Fill my mind with peace and my heart with gratitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
