Stop Trying To Be Your Own God 🕊

Bible Verse:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. – Isaiah 55:8

Let’s be honest.. trying to control everything feels normal. In this world anyway.

You want clarity, so you overthink.

You want peace, so you try to fix every outcome.

You want security, so you hold onto people, situations, and plans tighter than you should.

And before you even realise it, you’ve stepped into a role you were never meant to carry.

Trying to be your own god.

Not really in a dramatic way, but in the everyday, subtle ways.

Trying to control timing.

Trying to force outcomes.

Trying to make everything go the way you think it should.

But this verse reminds you… your perspective is limited! 👀

God sees the full picture. You see a moment.

God sees what’s ahead. You see what’s right in front of you.

God knows what’s protecting you. You often only see what’s frustrating you.

And that’s where the tension comes in.

Because letting go of control can feel uncomfortable. It can even feel risky. Like if you don’t hold everything together, it might all fall apart.

But here’s the truth… holding everything together was never your job in the first place.

You’re not designed to carry that weight!

When you try to control everything, you end up anxious, overwhelmed, and exhausted. Your mind doesn’t switch off. You replay conversations, predict outcomes, try to plan ten steps ahead.

And still… you don’t feel at peace.

Because control doesn’t actually give you peace. It gives you pressure.

God offers something different.

Trust.

, “I don’t understand everything, but I don’t have to.”

This week, notice where you’re gripping too tightly..

Is it a situation you’re trying to force?

A person you’re trying to change?

An outcome you’re trying to guarantee?

What would it look like to loosen your grip, even slightly?

You don’t have to drop everything all at once. Just start by releasing the need to control every detail.

Sometimes surrender looks like choosing not to overthink for the hundredth time.

Sometimes it looks like not chasing something that isn’t flowing.

Sometimes it looks like saying, “God, I don’t get this, but I trust You with it anyway.”

And here’s something comforting… God doesn’t need your control to make things work.

He’s not waiting for you to figure it all out before He steps in.

He’s just asking you to trust Him enough to step back.

You don’t have to be the planner of everything.

You don’t have to be the fixer of everything.

You don’t have to carry the weight of every outcome.

That pressure you feel? You can put it down.

Because you were never meant to be your own god.

You were meant to be guided by one!

Prayer 🙏

God, I admit that I try to control more than I should. I overthink, I hold on too tightly, and I try to fix things in my own strength. Help me to let go of what was never mine to carry. Teach me to trust You, even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Quiet my mind, calm my heart, and remind me that You are in control, not me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
