Controlling Your Response 🧠
Reflection!
Every day brings outside circumstances that try to shape our mood thoughts and actions. We cannot always choose what happens to us but we can choose how we respond. Scripture reminds us that strength is not found in force or control over others but in mastery of our own spirit. When we pause before reacting we create space for wisdom peace and grace to lead us. God meets us in that pause and offers a better way than impulse or fear.
Therapy Informed Practices!
Practice the pause. When something triggers you take three slow breaths before speaking or acting. This brief pause helps calm the nervous system and brings your thinking brain back online.
Name what you feel. Quietly identify the emotion you are experiencing such as anger sadness or anxiety. Naming emotions reduces their intensity and increases self control.
Focus on what you can control. You may not control the situation or other people but you can control your tone words and next choice. Redirect your energy toward those areas.
Reframe the moment. Ask yourself what this situation is teaching me or how can I respond in a way that aligns with my values and faith.
Ground yourself in the present. Notice your feet on the floor your breath moving in and out and Gods presence with you right now.
Prayer..
Lord help me remember that my response matters more than my reaction. When outside circumstances feel overwhelming steady my heart and guard my mind. Teach me to pause to listen and to choose peace over impulse. Strengthen my spirit so that my words and actions reflect Your love and wisdom. I place my thoughts emotions and responses into Your hands today. Amen.
Bible Verse..
Proverbs 16:32..
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
