When You’ve Taken a Leap and Feel the Fear!
Bible..
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
Reflection..
Taking a chance! Whether starting something new, speaking up, moving forward, or following a little nudge from God can feel both brave and terrifying. In the moment of decision, courage burns bright! But often, once the leap is made, fear creeps in: “Did I do the right thing?” “What if I fail?” “What if this doesn’t work?”
This is a very human response. Our brains are wired to protect us from uncertainty, which is why worry often arrives right after we’ve stepped out in faith. In therapy, this is sometimes called the “vulnerability hangover” , the uneasy feeling that follows risk or openness. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) reminds us that worry is often our mind’s attempt to control outcomes that aren’t ours to control.
When fear surfaces, pause and ground yourself in the present moment. Try a simple anchoring technique:
Notice where you are.. your feet on the floor, your breath in your body.
Remind yourself, “I am safe right now.”
Breathe in slowly for four counts, hold for two, and breathe out for six.
This calm reset helps your body remember that stepping out in faith is not danger, it’s growth.
Spiritually, trust works the same way. We don’t have to see the full picture to walk in obedience. God rarely gives us a map; He gives us a step. Sometimes He calls us to act, and the peace comes afterwards, not before. The same God who led you to take that leap will sustain you in the space between your courage and your comfort.
If you’re feeling uneasy after saying yes to something brave, be gentle with yourself. It doesn’t mean you’ve done the wrong thing; it often means you’re stretching into new faith.
Let this be your reminder! Obedience may feel uncertain, but it’s never wasted. God delights in your trust more than your perfection.
Reflection Prompts..
1. What recent step of faith has left you feeling anxious or uncertain?
2. How does fear show up for you after you’ve made a brave choice?
3. What helps you remember that God is still guiding you, even when you can’t yet see results?
Prayer..
Faithful God, thank You for the courage to take new steps. When worry rises after I’ve obeyed, remind me that You are still in control. Help me rest in Your promises and trust that You will guide me through what I’ve begun. Let peace follow my courage. Amen.
