Comparison is the theif of joy 💔

"For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." — 2 Corinthians 10:12

Can we be honest for a minute?

Comparison is exhausting.

It's so easy to look around and think everyone else is doing better than us. Someone has the marriage we wanted. Someone else has the ministry, the business, the house, the opportunities, the friendships, or the platform we wish we had. Social media doesn't help either. We often end up comparing our everyday reality to someone else's highlight reel.

The problem is that comparison steals our peace.

When Peter asked Jesus about another disciple's future, Jesus essentially told him, "What is that to you? Follow Me" (John 21:22). In other words, Peter's assignment wasn't to worry about what God was doing with someone else. His responsibility was to keep his eyes on Jesus.

That's still true for us today.

God has never asked you to become someone else. He created you with a unique purpose, unique experiences, unique gifts, and a unique journey. The timeline He has for your life may look completely different from somebody else's, and that's okay.

Sometimes we compare our chapter 2 to someone's chapter 20.

Sometimes we compare our behind the scenes to someone's carefully edited public image.

Sometimes we compare our current struggle to someone else's apparent success without knowing what they had to walk through to get there.

The truth is, God knows exactly where you are.

You are not behind.

You have not been forgotten.

You are not less valuable because someone else seems to be moving faster.

A flower doesn't compete with the tree beside it. Both grow differently, both bloom at different times, and both fulfil the purpose they were created for.

Today, if you catch yourself looking sideways at what everyone else has, gently bring your focus back to Jesus. Thank Him for what He is doing in your life right now, even if it feels small. Small steps with God are still progress.

The enemy loves distraction. God loves direction.

One keeps your eyes on everyone else.

The other keeps your eyes on Him.

And when your eyes stay on Jesus, you'll find something comparison can never give you:

Peace.

Prayer 🙏

Father, forgive me for the times I compare my life to others. Help me to trust Your plan for me, even when I don't fully understand it. Remind me that You have not forgotten me and that my journey is in Your hands. Teach me to celebrate the blessings of others without feeling discouraged about my own situation. Help me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus instead of constantly looking around at everyone else. Thank You that Your timing is perfect, Your plans are good, and Your love for me never changes. Give me peace, contentment, and confidence in the path You have set before me.

In Jesus' name, Amen. ❤️
