Know your enemy..

Some of the enemy’s biggest tactics are honestly not what people expect. It’s not always chaos, horror movies or obvious darkness. A lot of the time it’s subtle. Quiet. Slow. Draining. Confusing. It’s discouragement that creeps in over time. It’s exhaustion that makes you stop praying. It’s distractions that slowly pull your focus away from God without you even noticing.

The enemy loves anything that weakens your spirit without sounding “serious enough” to confront. Constant comparison. Bitterness. Fear. Offence. Isolation. Numbness. Overthinking. Condemnation. Hopelessness. These things slowly wear people down until they feel disconnected from peace, purpose and truth.

One thing I’ve noticed is how the enemy often attacks identity first. If he can make you question who you are, your worth, your future or whether God is really with you, he can keep you stuck in confusion for a long time. That’s why so many believers battle thoughts like, “God has forgotten me,” “I’ll never change,” “Nothing good is ahead,” or “I’m too broken.”

But those thoughts do not sound like Jesus.

Jesus convicts with love and truth. The enemy condemns with shame and hopelessness. There’s a huge difference. One pulls you closer to God. The other makes you want to hide from Him.

The enemy also loves distraction. Especially right before breakthrough, healing or growth. Suddenly everything feels louder. More tempting. More emotional. More draining. Sometimes people think they’re failing spiritually when actually they’re just under pressure and need to stay close to God instead of panicking.

1 Peter 5:8 says:

“Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Notice it says vigilant. Aware. Not fearful. Not obsessed. Just aware.

As Christians we don’t have to walk around terrified of darkness because Jesus already overcame it. But we do need discernment. We need wisdom about what influences us, drains us and slowly pulls us away from peace.

Today, ask God for sharper discernment. Ask Him to expose lies, unhealthy attachments, spiritual heaviness and anything trying to steal your peace. Sometimes simply recognising the tactic breaks its power because you stop agreeing with it.

And remember this too. The enemy attacks because he hates light. He hates growth. He hates truth. So if you feel resistance lately, don’t automatically assume you’re failing. Sometimes it means you’re moving closer to freedom.

Prayer 🙏

Jesus, give me discernment and wisdom. Help me recognise the enemy’s tactics without becoming fearful or consumed by them. Strengthen my mind, guard my heart and keep me close to You. Expose every lie and replace it with truth. Fill me with peace, clarity and strength today. Amen.
