Daily Devotional ✝️

Today, what we need to learn is that you are not responsible for the choices other people make. It's easy to carry guilt that doesn't belong to you. We replay conversations, wonder if we could have said something differently, or blame ourselves when someone treats us badly. But God never asked us to carry responsibility for another person's heart.

Galatians 6:5 says, "For each one shall bear his own load."

That verse is a reminder that every person is accountable before God for their own actions. We are responsible for how we love, forgive, speak, and respond, but we are not responsible for another person's lies, anger, manipulation, betrayal, or refusal to change.

Jesus loved people perfectly, yet many still rejected Him, mocked Him, and chose darkness over light. Their response wasn't because Jesus failed. It was because they exercised their own free will.

The same is true for us. Someone else's behaviour isn't proof that you weren't enough. It isn't proof that you failed them. People make decisions based on their own beliefs, wounds, pride, fears, and desires. You cannot heal someone who doesn't want healing, and you cannot force someone to choose what is right.

There is real freedom when you stop carrying burdens that God never placed on your shoulders. Instead of asking, "What did I do wrong?" ask, "Have I acted with integrity before God?" If the answer is yes, then leave the rest with Him.

That doesn't mean we never reflect or apologise when we've genuinely made mistakes. Humility is important. But there is a huge difference between taking responsibility for your own actions and taking responsibility for someone else's.

Today, hand back the weight you've been carrying. Give God the need to fix everyone, rescue everyone, or explain yourself until people understand. Their choices belong to them. Your peace belongs to God.

Walk forward knowing that you can love people deeply without carrying the consequences of decisions they freely choose to make.

Prayer 🙏

Father, thank You for reminding me that I am only responsible for my own heart and my own choices. Help me to stop carrying guilt that doesn't belong to me. Give me wisdom to know the difference between healthy responsibility and false responsibility. I release the burden of trying to control, rescue, or change other people. I trust You to deal with every heart in Your perfect timing. Fill me with Your peace, help me walk in freedom, and keep my eyes fixed on You instead of the actions of others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
