Familiar and Monitoring Spirits Explained!
Unfortunately, these things have watched us all our lives. That's why psychics are so accurate, they get the information about you from them! And being in the occult or witchcraft, you may have accidently accumulated a few more.
In the Bible, we see that there are both godly and ungodly spiritual forces at work. God sends His angels to help and protect us, but the enemy also has spirits that try to deceive, distract, and destroy. Two common types people talk about are familiar spirits and monitoring spirits.
Familiar Spirits..
The Bible talks directly about familiar spirits. These are evil spirits that are connected to witchcraft, fortune telling, and false prophecy. The word “familiar” means “close” or “known.” These spirits become “familiar” with certain people, families, or generations. They study people so they can mimic voices, memories, and behaviors to deceive.
In Leviticus 19:31, God warned His people,
"Do not turn to mediums or seek out familiar spirits, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”
And again in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, God called consulting familiar spirits an abomination. These verses make it clear that these spirits are not from God. They pretend to bring comfort or answers but are actually demonic forces meant to lead people away from truth.
A familiar spirit can try to stay connected to a bloodline. For example, if there has been a history of occult involvement or spiritual compromise in a family, that same spirit may try to operate through future generations until it is broken by the authority of Jesus Christ.
Monitoring Spirits..
The Bible does not use the exact phrase “monitoring spirits,” but we can see the concept in several places. These are demonic spirits that seem to watch, observe, and gather information about believers so the enemy can plan his attacks.
In Job 1:7, when God asked Satan where he had been, Satan replied,
“From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
That shows that Satan and his demons move around, observing and studying people. In 1 Peter 5:8, we are warned,
“Be sober minded and watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.”
That verse gives us the picture of an enemy who watches carefully and waits for an opportunity to strike. The devil is strategic. He studies weaknesses, habits, and patterns. He looks for open doors through sin, fear, or disobedience.
We also see in Zechariah 3:1 that Satan stood by to accuse Joshua the high priest before the Lord. This shows how the enemy loves to observe and accuse God’s people. That’s what many mean when they talk about monitoring spirits. These are spirits that watch in order to accuse or attack at the right time.
The Good News!
Even though the enemy watches, God watches over us even more closely. His eyes are always on His children. Psalm 121:7-8 says,
“The Lord will keep you from all harm, He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
And 1 John 4:4 reminds us,
“Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.”
So while familiar and monitoring spirits are real and active, they are not more powerful than God. Through prayer, obedience, and spiritual discernment, we can recognize their influence and shut the door on every form of deception.
Stay alert but stay confident. The enemy might watch, but God covers us always.
Prayer to Rebuke Familiar and Monitoring Spirits!
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. I thank You for Your power, Your presence, and Your protection over my life.
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that You are my Savior and my Defender. Your Word says in Luke 10:19 that You have given me authority to trample on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt me.
Right now, in the name of Jesus, I take authority over every familiar spirit and every monitoring spirit that has been sent against me, my family, or my destiny. I command every unclean spirit that has been watching, studying, or reporting on my life to be bound and cast out in the name of Jesus Christ.
Father, I cover myself, my home, and everything that concerns me with the blood of Jesus. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that rises against me in judgment I condemn, according to Isaiah 54:17.
I break every agreement, every covenant, and every access point that the enemy has used to gain entry. I close every door through repentance and I declare that Jesus Christ is Lord over my life and my household.
Holy Spirit, fill every place that has been cleared. Surround me with Your presence and give me discernment to recognize the enemy’s tactics. Let Your angels encamp around me and protect me day and night.
I declare that my life is hidden with Christ in God. The enemy has no power to track, monitor, or influence me. I walk in freedom, victory, and peace through the authority of Jesus Christ.
Thank You Lord for hearing my prayer and for giving me victory over all the works of darkness.
